Biography
Barbara Singer, photographer, radiographer, actor, author, was born on January 29, 1927 in New York City. On January 15, 1956 she married Nat Herz (dec.1964) and on September 7, 1983 married Mel Zalkan (dec.1993).

She received a BA in Biology, NYU, 1947, and studied Aesthetic Realism with Eli Siegel, 1944-76. She assisted Ben Fernandez, director of photography at the New School 1985-91, and Lucien Clergue in 1989.

In 1964, she was registered by the ARRT for diagnostic radiography and for mammography in 1991. In 2001, she was certified by the Women's Business Enterprise National Council. In 2007 she obtained commercial representation by Don Buchwald & Associates, Inc. for acting. She then started her new business called Barbara Singer Productions which encompasses her work as actor, photographer, and author.

A photographer since 1983, she has exhibited in more than 25 group shows in venues including the John Stevenson Gallery, AIPAD, the Severoceske Museum, George A. Spiva Center for the Arts, and Photo-Plus Expo. She is represented by the Bridgeman Art Library International Ltd., Jupiter Images, and Getty Images. Her images have been published widely in the United States and abroad.

In 1990 she was a Photographers' Forum Finalist. She received the Beaux Arts Society Photography Award in 1994, won the E.F.S. poetry award in their 1999 Annual Writing Competition, received fiscal sponsorship by N.Y. Foundation For the Arts in 2000. An article about her, The Reality of Barbara Singer, Renaissance Woman, appeared in the ARRT 2006 Annual Report to Registered Technologists. She is featured in United States and the World Face to Face by Maximillien de Lafayette, 2006.

Ms. Singer is a member of the American Society of Media Photographers, Advertising Photographers of America, American Society of Picture Professionals and the Poetry Society of America.

Editor of The Impossible Landscapes of Nat Herz and Kurt Seligmann in 1999, she is currently producing With the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom August 26, 1963 by Nat Herz. In 2007, she completed her new book of poems called A Love Odyssey.
